Abstract

This mathematics activity focused on solving equations that contain either rational expressions or radicals. Students should have prior knowledge of factoring, rational expressions, least common denominators, and basics of radicals. It is designed for an undergraduate algebra course and follows the learning cycle model. The learning objectives are as follows: (1) Students will be able to solve equations containing rational expressions, (2) Students will be able to solve equations containing radicals, (3) Students will be able to identify extraneous solutions. By completing the activity, students should build information processing and problem-solving skills.

Level: Undergraduate
