Reaction Mole Activity
Abstract
This activity aims to deepen or refine students understanding of balanced equations at the particulate level in addition to manipulating reaction stoichiometric amounts mathematically. The activity guides students from concrete examples of building a car or a bike before connecting to building molecules. Students are asked to write and balance equations and then verbally and pictorially describe those equations using proper chemical terms and/or diagrams and reactions proportions. Once students have refined their conceptual understanding of balanced equations, they are asked to apply reaction stoichiometry concepts to mathematically related chemical amounts in a reaction.
