Abstract

For the first day of this course, students will learn and implement the basic vocabulary of sets. The course is an undergraduate mathematics course for social science majors, titled "Mathematical Topics in the Social Sciences." This activity, while not addressing the topic of probability, is a precursor to a unit on introductory probability (as formal probability depends on the language of sets). The course has no lab meetings.
