Abstract

In this activity, students extend their knowledge of foreign keys and referential integrity to the SQL database level, seeing foreign key constraints and referential actions. Students observe how foreign key constraints enforce referential integrity, then see examples of the restrict, set null, and cascade referential actions. The activity closes with application questions on how business rules motivate the choice of referential actions.
