Abstract

Neurons are very specialized mammalian cells. Neurons display a resting membrane potential. The resting membrane potential is a POGIL learning cycle activity designed for psychology or neuroscience students Here, students will first explore the concentration and electrical gradient. Next, students will learn about the resting membrane potential. Students will learn about the role of the voltage-gated sodium channel, the voltage-gated potassium channel, and the sodium-potassium-pump in the resting membrane potential.
