Abstract

This activity is focussed on helping students understand the thermodynamics concepts pertaining to non-redox biochemical reactions. Mainly the activity focusses on concepts and calculations that help students differentiate between free-energy change values obtained under equilibrium (standard) conditions and non-equilibrium (non-standard) conditions and also help calculated them. They will also learn about the significance of knowing these values for biochemical reactions. The activity is intended for sophomore or junior students, who have successfully completed their two semester general chemistry and organic chemistry sequences. Appropriate process skills rubric (ELIPSS rubric) is attached at the end of the activity, that will help the instructor assess received feedback from students.
