This activity is intended to introduce students at the high school or college General Chemistry level to Hess’s Law. By the end of the activity, students should be able to manipulate chemical equations and their associated energies in order to find the amount of energy released or gained by an unknown/given reaction. This activity or an exact equivalent is not found in any of the currently published General or High School Chemistry POGIL textbooks.
