To Mars from Arizona

A Poetry POGIL

Authors

  • Dalia Hoffman

Abstract

Students will examine a poem, focusing their attention on how choices in poetic devices such as metaphor and the physical layout of the text impact the meaning of the poem. In addition, they will evaluate the effectiveness of those poetic choices. By deconstructing the poetic devices and arriving at the meaning, students will also identify the speaker’s overall message as well as their tone with respect to that message.
