Abstract

This is the first chapter of Heat in the curriculum of undergraduate physics course at the calculus level. The two models, temperature scale and thermal expansion are for a 75 mins class. In addition to learning temperature unit conversion and thermal expansion, the methodology of finding absolute zero is valuable, the discussion about thermal expansion and the exception of thermal expansion (water) can help students relate the course materials to their life, improve engagement and critical thinking.
