Abstract

In this activity, students are introduced to the find command in Linux. They have previously used the locate command which is quick and easy but not powerful. With the find command it is necessary to know location where you execute the command.

This activity is designed to be the first contact with using the find command in an introductory course to Linux for IT majors and related disciplines. It is given in the 10th week of the course so it is expected that students are already familiar with navigating the Linux file system, creating files and directories, redirection, piping and using the Linux manual. This activity emphasizes the importance of location in the find command.
