Dot Motion
Abstract
This is a Learning Cycle POGIL designed to introduce Physics students to acceleration. It can be done in a classroom with paper and rulers. Students need to be familiar with the concepts of speed and velocity, be able to calculate s=d/t, and be able to draw and interpret position/time graphs. They will learn how acceleration differs from constant speed and be able to interpret and make dot motion tracks to express acceleration and deceleration both forwards and backwards. This POGIL is designed to come before the teacher introduces acceleration calculations.
