Hydrocarbon Reactions
Abstract
This activity is for the second semester of a GOB course designed to cover basic organic chemistry and focus on introductory biochemistry. This activity is the third activity in the course. The first activity introduces the three types of hydrocarbons and drawing organic structures. The second activity covers isomerism. This activity introduces students to three types of hydrocarbon reactions: combustion, hydrogenation, and hydration. Students are prompted to examine the reactions, discover what occurs and what is required for each type of reaction, and learn to predict the products for each type of reaction.
